Self-Assessment Diagnostic Tool
System · Cyndi Dale Energy
A self-scoring diagnostic quiz-to-report tool, built around a test → train → re-test loop, designed to solve a real brand-positioning problem.
Overview
The business had a real positioning problem: too many disparate topics with no single, ownable throughline — the opposite of a model like "the baby-steps guy," instantly identifiable by one clear idea. The fix I proposed adapted a sports-performance coaching framework from my own athletic and coaching background: assess, train, reassess. The result is a diagnostic quiz that takes a user through a structured set of questions and returns a personalized results profile with a recommended next action — the business's first data-informed way to tailor content to what its audience actually needs.
Ownership
- I proposed the underlying model and adapted it from a framework I already knew outside this industry.
- The questionnaire content and scoring logic were built collaboratively — I worked with AI tools to draft a prototype using the client's own subject-matter material as the substantive basis, and the grading logic was then reviewed and validated directly with the client before anything shipped.
- I built the backend database and the admin KPI dashboard, with AI assistance on implementation.
- The instrument is deliberately designed as a test → train → re-test loop, not a one-off quiz: a baseline is taken, a targeted practice is assigned, and the same instrument is re-run later so results are genuinely comparable over time — a more sophisticated design than a typical lead-magnet quiz, since it infers results from structured signals rather than asking someone to self-label directly.
Proof
- A screen-recorded walkthrough with real narration exists, showing the full questionnaire flow and the generated results readout.
- The admin dashboard shows real (if early-stage) submission data — confidence-of-results and dimensional-load charts, not mockups.
- Direct, on-camera, unprompted confirmation from the business owner: she credits me as "90% responsible" for the tool, which the business intends to eventually sell as its own product.
Outcome
- Produced the business's first standardized diagnostic and positioning tool.
- Contributed to a broader set of results the business owner reports: audience reach roughly doubled and mailing list growth of an estimated 20–30% over the engagement — though those are overall results across multiple projects, not isolated to this tool alone.
Limits
- Explicitly early-stage — the grading and scoring model is still being validated and iterated on with the client, not a finished, locked product.
- Demo data used to show the flow was test input, not real user submissions.
- Specific question content and scoring methodology belong to the client and aren't detailed publicly.
